Hiram Turner Brown is named twice, first as a trooper being transferred and later as being a Corporal.

Moved to New Mexico in 1875 from Manchester New Hampshire.  He was a Civil Engineer by trade. In his later years he worked at the Copper mines in Santa Rita NM.  On May 4, 1898, at age 41, joined the 1st Regiment of the U.S. Cavalry volunteers, under the command of Theodore Roosevelt.  At the time of his enlistment he listed his occupation as an "Electrician".  At another time during his youth, he worked as a "Telegrapher" and it is believed that his skill as a communicator was probably the reason for his acceptance in the Volunteer unit.
