May Brown, b. 7th Mar 1904 in Santa Fe New Mexico. Daughter of Hiram Turner Brown and Mary Antonia Hyder. She d. 29 Jan 1961 in Los Angles, California.  Married Joseph Diego Shoats in 1919. m#2: Guisseppe (Joe) DelFrate son of angelo Delfrate and Sabina Nanni m#3: Glenn Luther m#4: George W Van Wagner m#5: Orville Dewey Graham

Mama May had a mattress factory in Old town on the Plaza.  There was a family fried called Jack Donahoe who would come in and work for her.  One day she had to go do some business and asked jack to watch the store.
When she came back one room was filled with old mattress and she asked him what they were doing there.  He said that he had gone around and done free mattress inspections. The old cotton mattress had cotton balls where the mattress was tied and took a lead pencil over it and the mites will cling to the lead.  She told them to get them out, and when people went to look at the mattress they were full of dirt and dust and the people would not take them.  He told them that it was'nt dirt but renovation powder.

The factory was later converted into a very nice Mexican restaurant the "La Placita Restaurant".

she was only 16 or 17 years old when she married Joseph Diego Shoats, he was about 12 years older than her.  Joseph died when Joseph Jr. was only one month and three days old.  Leaving her a widow with three sons at age 21.

Her favorite Hymn was Old Rugged Cross and a song that came out some time in the 1960's "This Ole House" she said it reminded her of her house on southhall lane in Bell California.
